Presentation by Colleen McFarland Rademaker (Head Archivist, Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth in Kansas) — Strategic planning is an essential management tool for all archival programs. The barriers to creating and implementing a strategic plan, however, can seem insurmountable to solo and small-shop archivists. This workshop will provide an overview of the strategic planning process from the perspective of small archival program management, emphasizing relationships and community-building both within and outside of the archival program’s parent organization. Participants will receive guidance on writing effective mission statements, setting strategic priorities, crafting attainable and meaningful goals, and seeing those goals to completion. The workshop’s hands-on exercises will give participants a jump-start in writing their own strategic planning documents, and sample strategic plans will be available for inspiration and critique.  Archivists serving larger repositories are welcome to attend.
Please RSVP if you plan on attending. Further questions can be addressed to tcartmn@gmail.com.
